Gay Walker
Media and Web Site Coordinator
Gay was dragged into riding at age 35 by daughter Susan Walker, and immediately went to work “making up for lost time”—by the time she was 40, she could no longer count the horses she owned on her fingers!
In 2000, Gay and her husband opened Rancho Los Amigos Equestrian Center, which became home to German Dressage in 2001. Gay competed on her Oldenburg mare, Tequila Sunrise, a horse she will love like no other, through the 2007 competition season. She spent 2008 and 2009 testing the water with new partners and perfecting her foundation (and getting rid of bad habits Tequila willingly overlooked) with the help of her tried and true schoolmaster, the 1987 Dutch stallion Facet. In 2010, she expects to borrow both her mounts from her daughter while she waits for her horse of the future to mature--Tequila's 2006 granddaughter by Facet. Endor, Susan's former Young Rider mount, promises to help Gay up the levels as only a schoolmaster can, and Dos Equis, Susan's new horse, will be great fun until Susan finishes college and returns to claim him. Both will keep Gay out of trouble and keep her from giving Susan gray hairs by trying to ride Bella Vittoria before the young mare has enough show miles. Daughters worry more about mothers competing than the other way around--did you know that?
For Gay, it's all about the journey and becoming the best rider she can be--and she's grateful to have the patient coaching of German Dressage's Jürgen Hoffmann and his staff, since she came to the sport late and has not been the fastest learner. Gay also breeds warmbloods in partnership with the Hoffmanns.
Gay assisted Lisa Blaufuss with the CDS website and graphics in 2006, and assumed formal responsibility for the website and media in 2007.
